How to scan Japanese Pokémon cards

For a Japanese Pokémon card, start with the Japanese catalog. The same Pokémon or artwork can appear in several releases, so an English result is not a substitute for checking the Japanese printing. PokiFrame lets you choose JP before scanning.

  1. Choose JP under Card Language

Open the app's scanner and select Japanese, shown as JP, in Card Language. You do not need to change the app's menu language. If you have just scanned an English stack, switch the card language before presenting a Japanese card.

  2. Scan one card with its printed details visible

Choose Single under Scan Mode and bring the whole card into view. Keep the artwork and bottom text visible. Adjust the angle if a sleeve or foil surface reflects light over the card. Wait for a match before moving on to the next card.

  3. Compare the Japanese release and variant

Review the matched artwork, set and collector number against the physical card. Do not pick a result only because it shows the same Pokémon. Open the variant control and choose the matching printing or finish when alternatives are offered. The available choices depend on the matched card.

Review the price for that selected version. Comparing a Japanese card with a different English printing can give you an irrelevant reference price, even when the artwork looks similar.

  4. Organize the result before changing languages

Tap Organize, check the quantity and selected variant, then add the card to your chosen collection. For a mixed pile, working through one language at a time makes it easier to notice a wrong selection. Switch back to EN before starting the English cards.

When a Japanese card is not matching

Confirm that JP is still selected, then retry in Single mode with the card unobstructed. For a manual lookup, use Japanese search on the website and compare the card number and set instead of relying on an English-name search alone.

Card language and website browsing are different choices

The website's wider language directory is for browsing prices. For this scanning workflow, select JP inside the app itself. Free access to scanned card prices has limits; the app shows the allowance and any Premium offer that applies.
